3. Canadian Native Flag

I’m so happy to report that the maintenance team managed to find the time to put up the Canadian Native Flag. It now hangs strong and proud on the wall, and can be seen as soon as anyone enters this office. It’s a reminder to me of the important place  First Nations communities should have in Canada, and how much we all stand to benefit through raising up their culture.

The flag was designed by Kwakwaka’wakw artist Curtis Wilson, and is available from The Flag Shop in Vancouver. The title of the design is

Native tag line

which means “standing together in support of each other”.

The theme of inclusiveness is really embedded in the inspiration for this flag. Read more about the story behind it in the artist’s own words here . I hope the work we do in this place honors the intentions of this flag.
